Excellence in Special Needs Education

Testimonials

Swiss Cottage School has been improving the lives of children with special needs for over 15 years. Since the school opened in 1995, it has not only provided an outstanding service (as judged by Ofsted in all six inspection reports), it is now recognised as a world-class centre of excellence that goes over and above what is required of it.

My vision is for all children with special needs to have the very best education available and the new Development and Research Centre, housed within the newly constructed Swiss Cottage School, will help us to achieve this vision. With our support and guidance, others in the UK and around the world will be trained to emulate our success.

What was most impressive was the level of independence, confidence, and performance of the students we encountered. They were prepared, self- assured, and quietly at ease meeting and communicating with strangers at their school. Even when not prompted, they initiated and sustained conversations with us as young adults would.

Pupils make constant progress in their achievement and their personal development. They enjoy school and they feel safe in it. It is extremely important that they feel valued; they show a remarkable degree of self-awareness, they develop self worth and independence. All this opens opportunities to further steps in education and to jobs in the world of work

The Minister, Simon and I were all extremely impressed with the Swiss Cottage School, and the philosophies you employ in running the school. Your perspective on student relationships, with one another, staff and the wider community were insightful. The student representatives who spoke with us gave us a great appreciation into the success of your programs from a student perspective.

It is hugely evident what a tight “ship” you all run together and the enormous benefits of working in such close harmony over a period of time. What struck me was the “synergy” and the coherency and the intelligent leadership that absolutely made sure that every child’s needs were known, met in an unique and flexible way and also that PROGRESS was at the heart… and also the fun to be had!
